Kylian Mbappe, the French superstar who joined Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer, is set to break his silence in an exclusive interview on Sunday.
The 25-year-old forward has been absent from the international stage, missing the last two France national team breaks, and has also faced difficulties at the club level with Real Madrid.
At the international level, France manager Didier Deschamps stated that Mbappe was not in the “best psychological conditions” when he was last present with the national team in September.
The reasons for his continued absence from Les Bleus’ setup remain vague, coming after a disappointing Euro 2024 campaign on a personal level for the former Paris Saint-Germain star.
Deschamps did, however, clarify that Mbappe’s absence from the squad in November was not due to non-sporting reasons, a reference to an ongoing investigation where Mbappe is a potential suspect in an alleged rape case.
At the club level, Mbappe has struggled to live up to the high expectations since joining Real Madrid. While he has scored 10 goals since his arrival, the Frenchman has missed crucial penalties in the UEFA Champions League against Liverpool and in La Liga against Athletic Club earlier this week.
It is within this context that Mbappe will speak on the show ‘Clique’, broadcast on Canal Plus, on Sunday night at 19:30 in France.
In a clip shared on social media, the France captain alluded to why he was doing the interview, saying, “When you’re a star, if you don’t speak, people speak for you because they have to speak about you. Every day there is something when I haven’t even spoken to anyone.”
The interview will provide an opportunity for Mbappe to address the ongoing challenges he has faced at both the club and international level, as he looks to regain his form and confidence.
