Real Madrid secured a crucial 3-2 victory over Atalanta in the Champions League on Tuesday, but the win was marred by an injury concern to Kylian Mbappe.
The former Paris Saint-Germain star had to be substituted in the first half due to a suspected muscular problem.
Speaking after the match, Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti provided an update on Mbappe’s condition, saying: “He has an overload, a discomfort in the hamstring. We have to see in the next few days. It doesn’t seem serious, but he had to stop, because he couldn’t sprint… it bothered him a little. So we have preferred to take him off.”
Despite the injury scare, Ancelotti was pleased with his team’s performance, describing it as a “complicated match” but one in which Real Madrid “showed our best version: suffering, fighting, competing.
The Italian boss highlighted the team’s “great ball output and good game from the forwards, with a lot of mobility,” as well as the fact that “everything has gone well” despite the need to “suffer” to secure the victory.
Real Madrid’s win in Bergamo was only their third in the Champions League this season, and it will be a relief for the club and their fans that Mbappe’s injury does not appear to be too serious.
The Spanish giants will be hoping the young striker can recover in time to feature in their upcoming matches as they look to maintain their challenge on multiple fronts.
