In a recent interview with La Voix du Nord, Lille forward Jonathan David (24) has suggested the possibility of extending his stay at the French club beyond the expiration of his current contract at the end of this season.
David’s deal contains a provision allowing him to begin negotiating a pre-contract agreement with another club starting on January 1st, 2025. The Canadian international has been the subject of significant transfer speculation in recent years, but a move has yet to materialize.
With his contract set to run out, David acknowledged that discussions over a renewal are ongoing between his representatives and Lille.
“As the president (Olivier Létang) has said, there are talks. We are still speaking, and the door is never closed. It’s 50/50,” the striker commented.
Létang has previously stated that David, along with Lille’s other key players, will remain with the club in the January transfer window. However, the player’s future beyond this season remains uncertain.
Interestingly, reports suggest that David’s rumored dream destination, Barcelona, have not been convinced to make a move for the Canadian forward, according to Mundo Deportivo.
As the contract negotiations continue, it appears that David is keeping his options open, neither definitively committing to Lille nor ruling out a potential departure when his current agreement expires.
