Manchester United are reportedly considering a summer move for Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta. The 27-year-old French forward has been in impressive form this season, scoring 15 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions.
Mateta’s consistent performances have caught the attention of United, who are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements.
United’s current strikers, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee, have struggled to find the back of the net, with Hojlund scoring just seven goals in 36 matches and Zirkzee netting six goals in 41 appearances. Manager Ruben Amorim is keen to address the club’s goalscoring issues and sees Mateta as a viable option.
While United have been linked with high-profile strikers such as Victor Osimhen and Viktor Gyokeres, the financial constraints and high transfer fees associated with these players have led the club to explore more affordable alternatives.
Mateta, who joined Crystal Palace from Mainz for £11 million in January 2022, fits the bill as a cost-effective solution.
Mateta’s potential move to Old Trafford would provide United with a proven goalscorer who can adapt to Amorim’s preferred 3-4-3 formation. The Frenchman’s mobility, industry, and goalscoring prowess make him an ideal candidate to lead United’s attack.
