What Glue is Best for Connecting Craft Sticks?

There are a few different types of glue that can be used to connect craft sticks together. A basic white glue or wood glue is usually sufficient. However, if you want a stronger bond, you can use a hot glue gun. You can also use a glue stick, which is a type of adhesive that is specifically designed for use with craft sticks.

If you are using white glue or wood glue, it is important to make sure that the sticks are properly aligned before you glue them together. You can use a ruler or a straight edge to help you line up the sticks. Once the glue has dried, you can use a craft knife to trim off any excess glue.

If you are using a hot glue gun, it is important to be very careful. The glue can get very hot and burn your fingers. It is best to have an adult help kids with this project.

What Other Ways Can I Decorate My Popsicle Stick House?

Popsicle sticks can be painted or stained in any color you like. You can also use a variety of different colors to create a multicolored effect. Aside from this easy change, there are a few other ways to update your house with a unique look. Below are some of my favorites.

• Add beads, sequins, or other small embellishments to give the house a different look.
• Instead of paint, use markers or even crayons to color the craft sticks.
• Add a window to the house by cutting a square out and gluing a piece of cellophane on the back side of the house.
• Give the house shutters by the window above by cutting smaller pieces of the craft stick and painting them a different color then gluing them beside the window you made.
• Cut the edges of the craft sticks into different designs with scallops or notches.

This project is one that is tons of fun to make and definitely ideal for using imagination to create something unique.

What Can I Use My Craft Stick House For?

Once you have finished decorating your popsicle stick house, you can use it for a variety of different purposes. Sometimes, it’s not about the use, but just having fun creating, but below are some ideas of how this can be useful.

• Have kids use them to create a diorama or their own little “town” for playing with their other toys.
• Display on the mantle with holiday-themed accents for fall or winter.
• Glue to a wreath as an accent along with natural flowers or vines.
• Add an extra stick on the back as a brace to prop this on a shelf like a picture frame.
• Combine 4 into a box with the house shape and use it for kids’ playtime with dolls or small action figures.

You can use this or even just make it for kids to sit on the shelves in their bedroom. And, while it may not have an exact purpose, parents and grandparents everywhere will welcome it as a gift!

Supplies Needed

How to Make a Craft Stick House

To make this little project, you’ll want to grab the supplies and have them all within reach. If making with kids, I recommend also having a second project for them to work on while the paint dries on this one. Each house will require 8 craft sticks if made like the one pictured here. Larger houses can be made with additional sticks.

To begin, you will line up 5 of the craft sticks so they are side by side. Then, you will lay one of the extra sticks over the bottom end of the sticks you lined up. Glue this onto those to create a base that holds all of the sticks together.

Now, place another craft stick at an angle on the top half of the “house” so that it goes above the top of the craft sticks. Then add a second craft stick opposite this one to form the classic triangle roofline.

Carefully cut off excess craft sticks on either side and trim to give the house a pointed roof look. Now, trim the bottom stick leaving just the house shape.

Then it is time to decorate the house you just made. I painted the house with brown paint and then let it dry before adding accent colors.

You can also use markers or crayons to give the house a weathered look.

Once everything is dry, you will arrange the fake flowers and greenery as you desire around the edges of the house.

Decorate with your preferred look then use as a prop or hang from a wall!
